The History.
Founded in 1971 by our father, Kurt Hilgendorf, the
company continues with the old fashioned concept of customers
and employees first.
From the back of a pick-up truck, our father almost single
handedly built what was the Hat Concrete Plant (Now Burnco).
He soon knew that he needed a shop, and rented a small back
alley space in downtown Medicine Hat. After a few more moves
and changes, including a Christmas Eve fire that destroyed his
shop, we can now boast a brand new facility completed in 2006
and located on 19th Street S.W.
Today.
Our father passed away in 1994, but we know that he would have
been proud to see that his life's work continues, and has
elevated to the point that it is today. The company is
currently owned and operated by his sons, Hardy and Frank.
There are also 2 grandsons working for the company.
Employees are the backbone of any company, and we are proud to
employ over 25 dedicated individuals, all who have contributed
so much to the success of our business.
What We Do.
Kurt's Iron Work Ltd.'s primary business is the fabrication
and erection of structural steel. Our annual production
of approximately 1700 tons includes commercial,
institutional, and industrial projects, as well as many
custom-built projects. Together with Canam Steel Works,
we provide a full package service from detailing to
completion, including the steel structure, open-web
steel joists, and metal roof decking.
We also supply and
install all miscellaneous steel items required, including
steel stairs, railings and whatever else may be required by
our customers. We also supply and custom bend reinforcing
steel.
